Mission Statement Hospice Rustenburg provides, free of charge, home-based palliative care to people and their families who are suffering from or are affected by life threatening and life limiting illnesses in the Greater Rustenburg and the Bojanala District communities. Our vision is to provide excellent palliative care to all, supporting quality of life and dignity in death. Provide holistic palliative care to all, embracing the mental, physical, emotional, social, spiritual and cultural aspects of the individual. Advocate for appropriate care and follow up through a functional referral system. Network with other community based organisations to provide a holistic service. Services Our approach focuses on improving quality of life for terminally ill people in our community, and we do this by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems. We have a fully-trained and highly professional team and employ a multi-disciplinary approach in providing physical, psychological, psychosocial, social, spiritual and cultural care. Hospice Rustenburg provides, free of charge, home-based palliative care to terminally ill people and their families in the Greater Rustenburg Community and the Bojonala District. Palliative Care is any form of medical care or treatment that concentrates on reducing the severity of disease symptoms, rather than striving to halt, delay or reverse progression of the disease itself; or provide a cure. The goal is to prevent and relieve suffering for people facing serious, life-threatening illnesses; and to provide a better quality of life for both the patient and his or her family. Community involvement is a big part of how we make a difference. Some people choose to assist via cash donations in lieu of flowers at funerals, bequests or debit orders into our bank account. Jenny, together with a handful of volunteers and home-based carers were working from their son’s bedroom in the home she was living in. We would sell second hand clothing outside the home to generate income but also to raise awareness of palliative care in the community. Whenever you find yourself in a queue at a local market waiting to pay for your items, from time to time you will notice a shiny can next to the cashiers till. Her mom died when she was only 9 years old which resulted in her working from the age of For both, the experience of hospice intervention during their husband’s illness was priceless and they both respectively always wanted to give back to hospice one day. They simply love what they do and express their love and gratitude towards each other. The beaded angels were made by the Support Groups within the organisation. George Vagionakis, Hospice Board Treasurer and Master of Ceremonies for the occasion, charmingly welcomed the guests. Their programme was one of Traditional African music. Some songs brought forth uninhibited dancing and further ululating guest response. Guests could not resist returning again and again to enjoy the wonderful array and display of the most enjoyable 5 Star fare. All monies raised is to be used to further Hospice’s work of offering home-based palliative care to people and their families in and around Rustenburg.
