In 1961, the Dominican Sisters withdrew from Rustenburg, to be replaced by the Sisters of Charity of St Paul the Apostle who continued to grow the school in number and in excellence. Selly Park Convent continued as a Primary and High School until December 1982 after which time the High School and boarding facilities were phased out. Due to public demand, the present day Selly Park Secondary School was built with funds provided by the Sisters of St Paul and was opened in Although two separate entities, the schools work closely together, with Selly Park Convent Primary School being the main feeder school to Selly Park Secondary. This means that, as we are registered with the South African Revenue Service, all donations to the school are tax deductible in the hands of donors. UMALUSI is the Council appointed by government to maintain quality assurance in education. For the past nine consecutive years, Selly Park Convent Primary School has been awarded the PMR Certificate for Leaders and Achievers in the North West Province. Sr Fiona Vallance, a Sister of St Paul, is the representative of the Catholic School’s Trust on the Board of Governors. Mr Richard Pilkington, an appointee of the Catholic School’s Trust, is the Chairperson of the Board of Governors. This Board is made up of Trust, parent, educator and community representatives. The school accepts learners from the Catholic, as well as the wider community. Learners participate in all aspects of school life: academic, cultural, religious, social and sport. A detailed Policy for Admission of Learners is available upon request. Emphasis is placed on the holistic education of the child, and the relationship between school, church and home is a vital one. Information on current school fees is available upon request. Limited financial aid for emergency assistance is available to current learners at the discretion of the Board of Governors. The Board is committed to maintaining and enhancing the ethos, educational standards, extra curricular activities and governance standards at the school. All executive powers of the school vest in a body known as the Board of Governors. The Board acts on behalf of the School in all matters affecting the conduct of its affairs, in furtherance of its objectives. The Board has the authority to do whatever is required to secure the financial viability and continued existence of the School. Members of the Board are not entitled to any form of remuneration and any income derived is to be solely for the promotion of the School’s objectives. The Board comprises of at least seven persons and not more than fourteen persons, three of whom accept fiduciary responsibility for the School and who are not connected persons. Two persons co-opted by the Board because of their skill or expertise.
